summarize the raster values within a specified area of interest

Question

I'm looking to summarize the raster values (min, max, avg) within a specified area of interest with the eventual goal of incorporating it into a GP service.  SummarizeRasterWithin_ra looks close but I want to pass in a single geometry.

Suggestions?

Hi John Cartwright,

Could you please clarify what you mean by "pass in a single geometry"?

The workflow will depend on whether your area of interest input layer is a feature class or raster.  If it is a feature class, you could try selecting and exporting the desired feature into a new feature class and then run Summarize Within on just that feature. If it is a raster, you could try using the Region Group (Region Group—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop) tool to generate a raster with unique regions out of connected cells of the same value and then run Summarize Within to get statistics on each region.
