Please help this newbie with her offset data!

Question

Hi there - I am a fairly novice ESRI user using arccollector. The data I'm uploading and the map I'm loading to has the same Spatial Reference.

However, when the data gets loaded in to the computer everything is about 5' off in the same cardinal direction from my basemap ortho. My colleague said he used to have the same problem but did something super simple to fix it. Unfortunately he can't remember what that was.

I'm so tired of gnashing my teeth over this. Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like your data may be in the wrong coordinate system, or your basemap may be in the wrong coordinate system. A small difference in the coordinate system can cause the data to be misaligned by a few feet.

Here are a few things you can try to fix the issue:

* Check the coordinate system of your data and your basemap. Make sure they are the same. You can do this by opening the layer properties for each layer in ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap.

Hey there! Thank you for reaching out.

Everything gets synced in ArcGIS online and then I pull it into ArcGISPro. My maps and layers are all in WGS 1984.

I use a Geode GNSS reciever that connects via bluetooth to my samsung tablet that I run ArcCollector on.

The data from today actually didn't look too bad (just accuracy issues because of canopy/cloud cover) but It happens enough that I'd like to understand why.

Also, to give you a little additional reference, I do all of this mapping on a historic property that we have excellent orthoimagery on. I can tell when a point that I mapped as a sundial isn't actually over the sundial, fountain, etc. and when I notice the issue, all of the points are skewed by the same distance and cardinal direction so I don't think it's a receiver accuracy issue. I've tried googling but have never found a clear path to a solution.

I'm sure it's just something stupid and extremely obvious that I've overlooked!

Hello Jaime!

When you say your bringing the data onto your computer what exactly are you viewing the data in?  ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online?  If you are viewing the data in ArcGIS Online the default map projection is Web Mercator so if that doesn't match with the coordinate system specified initially this may cause issues.

Also I assume you are using a tablet to record the data rather than an external GPS receiver, is this correct?
