Okay... I needed Flashbuilder 4.5 or better!

I have downloaded the compiled version and the index.html opens no problem in a browser.
I then Import the files from C:\Inetpub\wwwroot into a new Flex project using Flashbuilder 4.0

When I run the Application I get http://myserver/Flexviewer-debug/Main.html and a blank web page.

index.html is in the project under the Flexviewer folder and not a sub folder within the project.

the index.html opens in a browser as file://C:/Documents and Settings/me/Adobe Flash Builder 4/Flexviewer/index.html

How do I get index.htm to launch in the browser as http://myserver/Flexviewer/index.html ?

Guess my last post was a little too wordy, just want to be able to add a local shapefile to Flex for viewing, not editing it. I can edit it with Desktop and am fine with that. I can add a kml to the viewer, I can add stuff from GIS servers to the viewer, but sure would be nice to add a local shapefile to the viewer as well. Just like ArcGIS Online drag and drop function.

Yes, there is still a main configuration file with the same structure and syntax. For your case, I would recommend installing the application builder and create a new application (for example "mynewapp") using application builder. Then close application builder, and manually move your customized configuration files from your 2.4 location, c:\inetpub\wwwroot\flexviewer (if you were using the default) to the new location, c:\inetpub\wwwroot\flexviewers\mynewapp (the default when using IIS).

You should then be able to open application builder and see your 2.5 application based on the updated config.xml.

I am collecting the data in GPS, converting to Shapefile (DNRGarmin) to view in the field, then updating servers with the correct information. Like it says in the quote, I can zip it up and view on ArcGIS Online, but wondering if a widget will do the same in a Flex Viewer.

We don't have any plans to support that exact work flow (editing local shapefiles and/or copy to a feature service).

However, if your data is limited to point data and you can export it to to a CSV file and host it on a web server, then you might in the future be able to see it as a layer in Flex Viewer. But it still wouldn't be editable data that could automatically be copied/sent on to your feature service.

It might be easier if you changed your workflow from "Need to see and edit the shape first before adding it to the server" to first upload the data to a feature service, maybe with an attribute for in-progress, then edit it as part of that feature service.

Great work on the new release. I don't want this to sound ungrateful or like a complaint but I'm curious about future enhancements and what we can expect from the next Flex Viewer(s). Specifically, are there plans to add:

- The ability for end-users to add local data like shapefiles (I saw that the new ArcGIS Online portal has drag and drop functionality)

I am looking for an answer to this question too? Would like to add local shapefile, kind of like the text file from Robert's eDraw widget. I need to see a shapefile on the map, but then update my server with the same shape. Need to see and edit the shape first before adding it to the server. I can do this in a round about way by saving the text file drawn freehand with eDraw, and manually getting rid of the extraneous graphic info to convert to just a x,y csv file for import into GIS. TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
at widgets.eSearch::SearchWidget/queryFromURL()

When I search for features it lists the results in the widget window but the Relate Results tabs at the bottom never gets populated. Maybe there's no related data in your sample data...

I've tried in IE8 and Firefox.

OK, now things are getting clearer. So if you are having issue with my eSearch widget for Flex Viewer 2.5 that handles relates are you actually using Flex Viewer 2.5? What are the errors you are encountering?

Sorry, I was referring to the access related data widget. I'm having problems with the sample application - there are flash errors when the viewer loads and nothing ever seems to populate the tabbed area at the bottom.

Thanks Robert. I've tried your widget and it works great. My only 'complaint' (and I think we've had this conversation before) is that it only works for feature layers so I either have to convert all my map layers to feature layers (which has its own repercussions) or I have some layers that are identifiable by just clicking on them and others that require the Identify widget.

Regarding the compiled 2.5v of Flex, does anyone else have a problem displaying the toolbar (widgets, pan, zoom, etc) when changing the .xml? Basically I'm trying to add all the old functions from my last flex viewer to this one, but the tools don't seem to work and even something as simple as adding a new op.layer causes everything to crash and no tools to display. Very annoying...

Do I need to remove my existing version 2.4 flex viewer before installing and getting started with the Application Builder and version 2.5? If not, will old site still run fine without disrupting the new viewer? Sorry - newbie here.

Hi Bjorn,

I am also getting a .zip instead or .air. After changing the file extension to air and trying to run the install, i get an error "The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author." Did changing the extension name work for anyone?

Yes, there is still a main configuration file with the same structure and syntax. For your case, I would recommend installing the application builder and create a new application (for example "mynewapp") using application builder. Then close application builder, and manually move your customized configuration files from your 2.4 location, c:\inetpub\wwwroot\flexviewer (if you were using the default) to the new location, c:\inetpub\wwwroot\flexviewers\mynewapp (the default when using IIS).

You should then be able to open application builder and see your 2.5 application based on the updated config.xml.

Note the difference in default folders. The application builder will default to "flexviewers" folder (note the extra s) in which you will create multiple applications. This is different from when you install the compiled viewer (any version) which installs by default to "flexviewer".

I just finished setting up my first application with version 2.4 with extensive time invested in all the configurations. Does anyone know if using the new version 2.5 Application Builder allows the user to smoothly migrate all configs/settings of an existing site (at least for the ESRI widgets and main Config.xml) without starting all over again? Is there still a main Config file to simply copy and paste from the existing one?

I do not have a separate production/testing machine, so a complete overhaul each time a new version is released is impractical even if I had the time with the rest of my workload.

Are you maybe trying to access an ArcGIS Server (or other resource that is on a different domain than your application), and that ArcGIS Server (or other resource) does not have a crossdomain file?

"This is most likely a cross-domain issue. This happens if you are connecting from a Flash application to resources on another domain. Either have the application hosted on the same domain as the resource (usually the ArcGIS Server) or add a crossdomain.xml to your ArcGIS Server."
