ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 crashes when running a spatial analyst tool

I am trying to help some field staff with a crashing issue in ArcMAP. If the person tries to clip a LiDAR derivied DEM he gets an error of ArcSOCP has stopped working and ArcMAP hangs. If I try it again and I turn off the background processing, then ArcMAP crashes without any notification. Any suggestions would be appreciated or any tips to help alleviate this problem. ArcGIS Version is 10.0 and cannot upgrade to a higher version at this time

Hi John,

It could be a DLL file issue.

Try the following steps:

1) Repair ArcGIS for Desktop

2) Install Service Pack 5.

3) Clear the temp. files (Run CCleaner.exe)

Kindly revert if the issue persists.
