Deauthorizing BA license before 2011/2016 Update?

I am trying to figure out the process to Deauthorize our current BA software license before running the 2011/2016 update as advised in the installation instructions. BA Desktop is installed on a local machine and the sdlic file is licensed on that machine. This install points to a server in which our license manager is installed along with the software license for BA. Going into the License Server Administrator I see where I can Deauthorize licenses under the Authorization section, but when I click it I get a popup saying it is going to deauthorize all licenses on the server. First, is this the correct place to Deauthorize the BA software license? If so, I assume from the popup that I am basically going to stop all licenses on the server including any other extensions and our core license. I was hoping I could Deauthorize the BA license without affecting any other extensions or the core desktop, but if I don't have a choice I just want to make sure this is the correct way to do it before I do.

For those curious about this ultimately it looked like the issue were remnants from the 2010 edition of Business Analyst were still present on the system (seeing a Dataset folder in C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop 10.0\Business Analyst folder revealed this as in the 10.0 2011 dataset the folder organization has slightly changed by the Dataset folder being under the 'US' folder).

Performing a clean re-install corrected all the issues encountered.

I do have Hybrid data apportionment selected, but when I go into Advanced it is set to esri_cs.bds. I changed this to BA_2011, click Reset to Default, and Ok out. I am unable to Ok out of the main Preferences screen though because I receive the same Unhandled exception error. "Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Business Analyst\Datasets\Target Groups'. Since I can't Ok out the setting changes are never saved.

Yes I did use the guided install from ESRI.exe. I did choose to do a Custom install though in order to also install the ZIP+4 Geocoding data. I did not make any other changes to the Default settings though.

I am able to open the attribute tables of the BDS layers and view 2011 data.

I am able to use Evaluate site and create rings.

When I run reports the list is very short (only shows Retail Goods & Tapestry Seg. reports) and when I run either of those I receive an Error 080002, Can't get blocks layer. I am also unable to run online reports because when I go into Preferences and add my BAO credentials and click Ok I receive an Unhandled Exception error and have to cancel out.

When I run the Append Data wizard I receive the same Error 080002.

Try going to the Business Analyst drop down menu and then Preferences and select the Data tab. Make sure you have Hybrid data apportionment selected and then click on the Advanced button which opens the Advanced Tolerance Settings. Compare it to the screen shot I've attached of how it should appear normally and let me know if it is identical or different. If it is different make sure the hiearchy is set to BA_2011 and then click on the Reset to Default and then OK out of ATS and then OK out of Preferences and see if you can generate the same error.

I tried removing the license and readding it and also just restarting the computer. Short of uninstalling and reinstalling, is there anything else I can try? The 2011 license appears to be valid in Administrator also.

See if you can open the attribute table of the BDS layers and see 2011 attribute information (block groups, zip codes, etc). If you do try using evaluate site to drop some rings down on the map and see if you can run a local Demographic & Income Profile report. And if that work try a last test of using the Append Data analysis and see if you can append data variables.

Question about how you updated to Business Analyst 2011 data update did you use the guided install (esri.exe) on the root of the install media?

I would recommend not deauthorizing your licenses in this situation as the only license that needs to be updated is the .sdlic data license (which is not handled like the software licensing). I do not believe there needs to be any Business Analyst software license update so in the big picture updating to BA10.0 2011 data update is an uninstall of the BA10.10 2010, install the BA10.0 2011, and finally removing the existing 2010 data license in ArcGIS Administrator (Data Licenses folder) and adding the new 2011 .sdlic file.
