When I select records in a shapefile to create a new layer, the select fails after a brief period of time. All the records from the original file appear in the new layer not just the ones I selected. I use arcmap 10. What am I doing wrong?
There is also the known bug that may be related - Layer file created using 'Create Layer From Selected Features' option displays all records of original layer instead of the selected features in ArcGIS10.

How are you creating a new layer? Are you using the option to "Create Layer From Selected Features", or are you Exporting the data to create a new shapefile?
