Recently I'm having issues with the append geoprocessing tool when I try to append data from a local GDB to a hosted feature layer. The append tool runs and says 'Append Completed' but the data is not there. I use the field map to reconcile field differences, I've unchecked optimize performance for feature services, I've unchecked preserve global IDs, I've made sure field lengths and types are the same, made sure spatial references are the same. Nothing works. Any thoughts?

A common reason for Append = “Completed” but nothing shows up when the target is a hosted feature layer is that you’re appending into a layer (often a hosted feature layer view) that has a server-side definition query (or other filtering). The features can be inserted, but service queries won’t return them unless they meet the definition query—so they appear “missing.” Esri has this documented as BUG-000144910, with workarounds like refreshing and/or disabling feature caching, or removing the definition query / appending to the source layer instead: BUG-000144910

Try these checks:

1. Confirm the target is not a Feature Layer View (or if it is, check whether it has a definition query/filter). If it does, append to the source hosted feature layer or adjust/remove the filter.
2. After append, refresh the layer/map and/or disable feature caching for that layer (listed as a workaround in the bug).
