I am a GIS Analyst working with ArcGIS Pro geoprocessing tools across many projects. As my geoprocessing history grows, it becomes difficult to locate past tools solely on the tool name, parameters, or timestamp.
I would like ArcGIS Pro to support enhanced search capabilities within the Geoprocessing History pane, specifically:
The ability to search geoprocessing history by output layer name, even when the tool name or parameters are not easily recalled
Semantic, AI-assisted search, similar to what ArcGIS Pro provides for symbology search. Adding this to geoprocessing history would make it easier to rediscover past steps in complex workflows
I have explored existing options, including viewing geoprocessing history through metadata by changing the metadata style, as shown to me by @DrewFlater while discussing this enhancement idea on the Expo floor at Esri UC 2026. It is useful, but not as practical as a simple search.
During the ArcGIS Pro: What's New session at the conference, staff demonstrated the new ability to add descriptions to geoprocessing tools, which appear in history. Another attendee asked whether these descriptions are searchable through the Geoprocessing History. @JeremyWright tested this during the session and confirmed that descriptions are not searchable.
Enhancing history search with output-layer lookup and semantic search would make the Geoprocessing History pane significantly more powerful, discoverable, and efficient for analytical workflows.
