Getting to Know ArcGIS Enterprise: Chapter 11

Working through Getting to Know ArcGIS Enterprise book from Nov 2025. Chapter 11, tutorial 11. Page 146 seems to imply that you would be connecting to some kind of Esri tutorial database. This doesn't work and I connected myself to an existing "test" database I have. Later in the chapter (page 152) it definitely seems I should be connected to some other database that is not registered and the exercise goes through registering the database with server. Can someone please explain if we are supposed to be able to connect with this MCountySQL instance?

Hello!

This tutorial does require that you have your own existing database to connect to. The MCountySQL instance is just an example of the database that the tutorial uses, but you would replace it with your own, which could be named as anything.

On page 152, after you have connected to your enterprise geodatabase, you will upload the data and register the data source with the server that your enterprise geodatabase is hosted on. The Server database connection option is set to Same as publisher database connection.

Makes sense, but I think it could be a little clearer for someone just starting out. A lot of the book assumes you have Enterprise up and running which may not be the case for everyone. There might be opportunities to adjust parts of the book if you do/don't have existing deployment.
