As with the majority of quarterly updates, some elements are great, long overdue, or just create grief and headaches.
I'll keep this as brief as I can - I'm a GIS team of one for an organisation with 4,500 employees. Not only do I manage, develop, and support our platform for colleagues, we also have a number of public facing applications and hub sites.
For employees the corner-stone of accessing quick and easy data is through a series of pre-created Instant Apps (around 40) available via a gallery. These apps allow almost anyone to access information with little or no training and an account login.
Tonight, Friday, I decide to work my way through the June update and see what impact there's been to the Instant Apps. I can already pre-empt the emails I'm going to have to answer on Monday morning!
Why oh why do some updates give with one hand but take away with the other?!?! Don't the devs ever think beyond their own silo??
Simple example: The Gallery settings - updated to be a little more mobile friendly, ok, but what if I want to change the grid layout to include more than 4 items per row for desktop users? GONE! Gallery is sorted by view count to ensure most popular apps are top listed - can I define sort ascending or descending as a default setting?? NO GONE!!
WHY? It's really simple stuff. Why fundamentally change something to be less useful? Why change something that, as a default, would require a user to go in and change their own view settings with every session? Why are we making it more difficult??
I actually dread going in and checking the apps within the gallery are working ....
