The upcoming update for ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App and ArcGIS Business Analyst Mobile App is scheduled to arrive on June 24, 2026.
This update helps you answer questions about places with more context, clarity, and confidence. New enhancements support more precise POI research for better market insight, more flexible ways to view results and create stories, new infographic templates, a refreshed AI assistant, updated data, and additional geographic boundaries in the U.S. to elevate your analysis.
Please note that all planned updates are subject to change. Check out the full details in the What's New blog article and final documentation on release day.
More precise POI research for sharper market insight
This update adds new ways to search and filter points of interest, helping you focus on the businesses and places that matter most to your organization.
Quick search options
You can now search for more top retailers and popular options like chains, headquarters, fast food and quick service restaurants, and health-related locations quickly in POI search, nearby analysis, and void analysis. These popular options help you start with commonly used advanced searches instead of building from scratch.
For nearby analysis, retail has also been added as a featured point list option for quick search.
Expanded top retailers’ coverage
Introduced in October 2025 with a curated list of the top 25 U.S. retailers by sales volume, the top retailers search option is expanding to the top 50 in June 2026. This enhancement gives you broader coverage of the brands that strongly shape national and local retail markets, including parent companies and their regional subsidiaries. With more top retailers included, you can identify anchor tenants, understand where major brands operate or are absent, and support site selection and competitive analysis with a clearer view of high-impact retail activity.
Open hours filtering
This update adds the ability to analyze points of interest based on actual operating hours when using SafeGraph data, bringing time-based context into your analysis. You can now filter POIs by preset options (such as open late night or early morning) in the workflow pane, or result pane open hours tag, or define custom day‑and‑time windows to focus only on businesses open when it matters most to you.
Open hours filtering supports strategic questions across industries:
- Real estate: Demonstrate 7‑day livability by identifying access to essential services beyond standard business hours.
- Public safety: Map late‑night activity corridors to better understand where people gather after hours and optimize resource planning.
- Retail: Identify underserved early‑morning or late‑night markets by finding where demand exists but competition is limited.
By adding time as a dimension, open hours filtering enables more realistic analysis of access, competition, and opportunity, based on when places are available, not just where they are.
Additional POI filters in infographic’s nearby panel
When using POI data in an infographic’s nearby panel, additional attributes are now available for filtering, so you can focus on the businesses, services, or locations that are most relevant to your analysis.
Turning line features into analysis areas
You can now create analysis areas directly from line features, such as roads, transit lines, and corridors. Simply select one or more line features, apply a buffer in miles or kilometers, and turn them into sites for analysis.
Better ways to view results and build stories
More flexible results pane
The results pane now offers a more flexible viewing experience for exploring summarized results. It floats on top of the map, clarifying that areas beneath the pane are still included when analyzing the current map extent.
When expanded, summary cards resize responsively to use available space, reducing unnecessary scrolling and unused white space so you can review more summaries at once. You can also show or hide summary cards to focus on the results most relevant to your task or audience, whether you are reviewing findings internally or presenting insights to stakeholders.
Basemap reference visibility control
You can now show or hide basemap reference details, such as city names, to focus on your analysis.
Updated share to a story workflow
In February, we added more layout options to the Create a story workflow to give you greater flexibility in how sites, maps, infographics, and reports are presented in ArcGIS StoryMaps. In June 2026, phase 2 builds on that foundation with a more streamlined story creation experience. Settings are more visible, pop-up windows are reduced, and common tasks take fewer clicks, helping you adjust content and move through the workflow with less friction. You can edit sites individually or all at once, and sites shown on the map are automatically added to the story. For point-based sites, you can also edit attributes and notes directly within the workflow.
Turn questions into insights faster with AI assistant
The AI assistant is now out of beta and into general availability, with a refreshed interface. It is now smarter, helping you move from a question to real insights with less effort. With improved reasoning, the assistant better understands your intent even for complex, real-world questions and can guide you through the right tools and workflows without requiring step-by-step instructions.
Infographic updates
Modernize your reports: A new era for insights
We are continuing the transition to a more modern, polished, and accessible reporting experience. In June 2026, the classic Esri report style will be removed for the USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico, and the Run reports workflow will offer only the modern report style for these data sources. Esri report templates will also move to the infographic builder, where you can customize and manage them alongside infographic templates. To support this transition, the infographic builder now includes additional advanced text and table capabilities, such as the ability to reference the first or last buffer in multi-feature reports and new dynamic fields including My subtitle, Latitude, and Longitude. Other data sources will move to the new report style over time as data get updated.

Notable data updates
- Esri Updated Demographics: New occupation and educational attainment variables, current-year school enrollment measures, and expanded Age by Income detail with 7 age groups across 20 income ranges are added, giving you richer ways to profile workforce, education, and household patterns.
- Updated census tract data for ACS and Census data: Census tract-level data has been improved and expanded. Previously, census tract-level data was only available in some mapping workflows. With the upcoming update, census tract-level data will be available in any workflow that uses the data browser, including building infographics. More than 480 variables now have expanded census tract-level availability, including topics such as income, commuting, poverty, race, ancestry, citizenship, and household characteristics. This helps bring more granular demographic insight into infographics, comparisons, mapping, and analysis.
- Business Summary: New health-related business variables.
- 498 ACS variables and 369 Census 2020 variables related to income, commuting, poverty, race, ancestry, citizenship, and household characteristics are now available at the block group level.
- Market Potential: 114 variables related to financial services, health and personal care, pets, phones, coupon usage, sports, travel, podcasts, social media, and more have been added.
- Advanced Demographics for Canada: New 2046 DemoStats Trends variables were added, including household, population, and income measures. 2026 PRIZM demographic highlights include more older Canadians living in retirement communities, more older children living at home, growth in high-rise neighborhoods and condo dwellers, and fewer Francophones.
New geography levels
- Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) for the U.S. and Puerto Rico
ZCTAs are generalized census geographies based on USPS ZIP Code delivery areas. They provide a more stable geographic framework for mapping and analysis, helping you compare demographic and economic patterns over time with a more standardized census-based reference. - Combined Statistical Areas (CSAs) for the U.S. and Puerto Rico
CSAs group neighboring metropolitan and micropolitan areas with strong economic ties, such as commuting patterns and shared labor markets. This geography helps you analyze broader regional dynamics without manually combining multiple metro areas, supporting more efficient strategic market analysis and service planning. - Neighborhoods for the U.S.
Neighborhoods are community-recognized places that reflect how people think about and describe local areas, especially in cities. They make analysis more intuitive and meaningful by aligning results with familiar place names such as SoHo in New York City or Reseda in Los Angeles, supporting clearer communication and more nuanced local market insight.
European cross-border data is out of beta and available at the Advanced license level
European cross-border data covers 39 countries and supports cross-border mapping, reporting, and analysis using comparable geographic levels and hexagon grids. Available at the Advanced level and sourced from Michael Bauer Research, it includes key population, household, purchasing power, and consumer spending indicators standardized in euros for easier comparison across countries.
- NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics) boundaries are now available in this dataset. NUTS is a standardized geographic hierarchy developed by Eurostat to divide European countries into uniform regional tiers (NUTS 1, 2, and 3) based on population thresholds. This creates a single, cohesive framework for cross-border analysis, allowing you to make more consistent comparisons of demographics, purchasing power, and economic trends across international borders.
- Accessibility has been improved for infographics in this data source.
Upcoming data transitions
The June 2026 release also includes two important data transitions to prepare for:
- Esri Tapestry Segmentation and 2024 dataset will be retired in June 2026. To prepare, update custom infographics, reports, saved lists, and custom variables that rely on deprecated Tapestry variables to ArcGIS Tapestry. Read more: Migrate from Esri Tapestry Segmentation to ArcGIS Tapestry using ArcGIS Business Analyst.
- SIC codes will be removed, and workflows need to transition to NAICS codes. After the update, only NAICS will be available for POI search, nearby analysis, and void analysis. SIC-based variables will be removed from the data browser and saved lists, and the Business Summary Report – NAICS (Tabular) will replace SIC-based business summaries.
