Trouble Viewing ArcGIS Online on a Chromebook

Hello everyone!

Normally I avoid Chromebooks because they are really uncooperative, but we have a Chromebook "system" hooked up to our display TV so we can have some flexibility to display media for guests but limit the amount of software people use on it.

Even after disabling the website blockers, whitelisting ArcGIS and StoryMaps, and enabling the ability to save cookies, I can't seem to get anything from ArcGIS Online to display in the browser. It's just a blank white screen. Same thing happens in Incognito window. I can't even load the regular ArcGIS related websites without being logged in (so not just our org site, anything ArcGIS related in a browser). I hope that makes sense.

Anyone else work with Chromebooks and have suggestions? I'm just trying to view stuff through a Chrome browser, so I don't need any desktop apps.

Hey @SaraJL

If you're on the browser while this is happening, and right click anywhere on the screen and hit "Inspect" does the console section show any errors?

Hi Sara - We actually just had a similar issue with a Microsoft Surface that was being used by someone to edit in ArcGIS Online, specifically through the editor app. Our issue was when displayed through the browser, many of the buttons/widgets in the editor app wouldn't display even though when viewed on a normal desktop they would be there. We had to adjust the display setting in the browser itself, basically scaling things down so the app would eventually display.

My overall take away is that ArcGIS Online doesn't like to display on small screens, especially when it's not typical computer like a laptop. Maybe type a different browser on the Chromebook (if that's even an option). Also, check to see if it's up to date...? Other than that, I'm not sure what to say since usually the fix for us is testing out different browsers since Firefox vs Edge vs Chrome can be different in terms of how they handle website information.
