Monitor javaw.exe

Question

The metrix of host (when server is installed) let you monitor the general CPU usage and also some specific processes (ArcSOC.exe for each service, ArcGisServer.exe, etc).

It does not have matrix for javaw.exe, this process sometime takes a lot of resource.

Why this process does not have it's own metrix and can we creaate one?

Thanks for your answer.

It is clear that you can trace this process with external tools.

I just think this process SHOULD be traced by default by Monitor since it runs as part of the server and have some issues sometime.

If it is by GeoEvent then it make sense to trace it too.

If it running by other software it can be traced too.

Why tracing powershell and not javaw?

The javaw.exe is not tracked by default, it is a generic Java process and is not unique to Server, it can be spawned by GeoEvent Server/ArcGIS Server extensions that use Java or custom scripts

You can create a metric for javaw.exe but it may require external monitoring tools or custom scripts

Option A: Windows Performance Monitor (PerfMon)

* Open Performance Monitor (perfmon.exe).
* Add a Process counter for javaw.
* Track CPU %, memory usage, and thread count.
* Save the data to a log for historical analysis.

Option B: PowerShell Script

You can run a scheduled PowerShell script to log javaw.exe usage:

Get-Process javaw | Select-Object Name, CPU, Id, WS | Export-Csv "C:\javaw_metrics.csv" -Append

* CPU = total processor time
* WS = working set (memory usage)

Option C: Third-party monitoring tools

* Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus + Grafana
* Configure them to watch javaw.exe specifically
* Create dashboards and alerts when usage exceeds thresholds
