USGS Historical Topographic Maps imagery layer - don't show aerial photos?

Hi all,

I am using the wonderful Esri USGS Historical Topographic Maps imagery layer from the Living Atlas. I thought it was all topo maps but I am surprised to find aerial imagery in here. Is there a way I can filter on one of the fields to only show Topo maps/Not show aerial photos?

I thought maybe the "Aerial Photo Year" field but the topo shown has a value in that field as well. And the field "Orthophoto" is blank where aerial is.

Hi @DanPisut,

Yes, I have looked at those links. They are helpful. In my case, though, I am trying to use the Historical Topographic Maps imagery layer as a basemap. I need all of the historical topo maps for the state. I thought about going through that Historical Topographic Map Explorer and pinning the latest historical 24k maps and saving to a new ArcGIS Online webmap. I did about 8 maps by the time I figured out that process would take me hours and hours to cover the entire state.

I am attempting to replace the USA Topo Maps layer that is in mature support (as of June 2021), only available to zoom level 16 (1:18055), and 'a replacement item has not been identified at this time':

I think this could be the replacement with a few tweeks. Would love to get everyone's ideas on this.

Have you tried the Historical Topographic Map Explorer? Much easier to find the perfect scene than using the mosaic filters. https://livingatlas.arcgis.com/topomapexplorer
