Count or Sum all items in Report Summary from multi_select field

Question

I have a multi select field, I would like to create a summary report that provides the total for all entries, regardless of what was selected. I keep getting a 'cant parse'

even better, I would like to create a table that separates by date and location then provides the total for each entry, and then sums the total at the bottom, of the field? Possibly even counts the entries...

@abureaux if I am understanding your solution, it could be a work around to reporting my totals. I will try to send a copy of the form later but here is a screen shot how it looks on my phone. I do not need the totals for each employee, I only need the total for all selected employees during a Meal, Lodging, Incidental (which I can sort in a report). So if I create a calculation for Employee, I can carry that number into further Dashboards, Reports....

So, is there a wildcard that I can use when counting the Employees? because this group will not stay static. I will be adding and deleting names as the incident expands. But want to have the Names listed for expense reconciliation later.

I am thinking my CALCULATION would look like --if(selected(${employee},'wildcard'),1.0)  INT, and then a further Calculation to SUM this total. Where I could keep hidden on the form or displayed, but than have available for Dashboard or Report Displays...
