Introduction: Dembel B. Gebeyehu – GIS Educator & Analyst

Hello everyone, I’m Dembel Gebeyehu. I’m a geospatial educator and GIS professional with over 10 years of experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, GeoAI, and digital cartography. I previously served as a Lecturer at Arba Minch University for seven years and coordinated the AMU–Esri Office as the ArcGIS License Administrator from 2022 to 2024.

I hold degrees in Geography and Environmental Studies, an MA specializing in GIS and Remote Sensing, and a Master of Education in Geography. I’ve also enrolled in the Harvard Extension School for Spring 2026. I currently serve as the Focal Person for the GIS Society of Ethiopia – USA Chapter and am now based in Portland, Oregon.

I’ve attended the Esri User Conference in 2022 and 2024, and I’m an active member of the American Association of Geographers (AAG), the Washington GIS Society, and Oregon URISA.
