Dividing an irregular polygon into equal areas

Hello Fellow GIS Folks:

I have what seems to be a difficult task.

Is there an easy way I can sub-divide an irregular polygon into equal areas?

In ArcExplorer Desktop?  No.  And for complex polygons in other software... maybe, if one has a rule-set on how the subdivision is to proceed.  Most solutions are one-off fitting a particular environment
