New "Failed to Fetch Features" Error in ArcGIS Online Web Scene

Question

Since the October ArcGIS Online update, I've encountered a new error in web scenes for both existing and new datasets.

The error does not appear right away when data is loaded in a web scene; it takes varying amounts of panning and zooming before it appears. It can appear for any of the seven line hosted feature layers and/or a hosted point feature layer. When it does, the features in the layer still draw in the scene, so data access is still occurring. Further, Experience Builder does not produce this error when the web scene in question is added to the map widget, so I'm inclined to move forward without spending additional time on the error with ESRI support. So far, I've checked/done the following:

* Published new hosted data
* Fixed some data extent issues
* Ran check geometry on all features (no issues found)
* Tried different symbology settings
* Sent an exported .har file for ESRI to review but it didn't provide answers

Curious if anyone else has encountered this before I move on. Thanks!

I can see the thinking here, one thing perhaps worth noting is that the ArcGIS JavaScript SDK is more "chatty" at v4.x compared to v3.x.

Generally most of this comes down to feature tiling, which results in more requests, which should be quicker, but occasionally some specific bits of behaviour can make this seem slower compared to v3.x, or cause certain issues to only appear at v4.x. It is interesting this all works fine in Experience Builder however.

Does the 3D service have any open geometries? These can be more intensive to process and could be a cause. To validate I would take a copy of your data and run through the IsClosed3D and Enclose Multipach tool, then test uploading another copy.

Also worth splitting your layer into different tiles, and publishing these in isolation to see if this is a data volume issue, or an issue specific to a certain area of data.

ESRI Support is still working through this and believes it to be the large extent of my 3D mesh causing the error:

"We suspect the 'fetch' errors are being triggered by a high volume of simultaneous data requests. When 2D vector data is draped over an Integrated Mesh, the browser generates numerous requests to align the data with the 3D surface, which can exceed standard connection limits. On further discussion with the internal team, I am currently trying to find the integrated mesh layer of the same extent as 2025 3D Imagery to check if the issue persists across different datasets."

Though no BUG has been identified yet for you to be added to, you may want to contact support if you haven't already. I can post a BUG number if one is assigned.

A similar scenario has happened for me.  I've added more bookmarks to reference in a briefings presentation.  I'm following as I'd like to be able to add 3-4 scene bookmarks per briefing presentation/storymap.  Maybe I'm pushing the memory in my computer?

I've ran the check geometry tool as suggested and republished to address the CIS error selecting symbology for all platforms.
