ArcGIS Location Platform is Esri's Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering for developers who want to create location-based applications and solutions with a flexible business model. It includes various Maps SDKs, tools, and ArcGIS Location Services. The entry barrier is very low with a free ArcGIS Location Platform account and monthly free quotas for many ArcGIS Location Services.
ArcGIS Location Platform is continuously evolving – and there were also numerous exciting innovations in the third quarter of 2025. Here is an overview of the most important updates:
- [New] Basemaps Sessions: A new session-based usage model for basemaps alongside the classic tile-based billing.
- [Update] ArcGIS Static Basemap Tiles Service: In addition to about 30 different ArcGIS basemap styles, there are now also static basemaps from seven different open basemap styles.
- [Extension] ArcGIS Geocoding Service: The new features SearchWithin, MatchID, and Match Narrative enable higher accuracy and better decision-making.
- [Update] ArcGIS Elevation Service: Increased accuracy (10 cm) and improved response time.
- [Update] ArcGIS Maps SDKs for Native Apps 200.8: Among other things, georeferenced PDFs as raster layers, new editing tools, more possibilities with Utility Network, and the Flutter SDK can now also do 3D.
- [Update] ArcGIS Maps SDKs for Game Engines 2.1.0 (Unity, Unreal) Significant performance improvements, custom materials can be applied to more layer types, use of the new Open Basemap Styles based on Overture Maps data possible, and much more.
- [Update] Calcite Design System 3.3: New components (Floating UI, Progress Bar Split View), improvements to existing components and accessibility.
- [New] MapLibre GL JS ArcGIS Plugin: Significantly simplifies the integration of ArcGIS Location Services into open-source web applications. Available via NPM or CDN.
