Updates to hosted feature layer metadata in AGOL does not seem to pull through to ArcGIS Pro

Morning,

I have been updating metadata to hosted feature layers in AGOL via the overview page and edit metadata button. Once all the edits have been made I save the changes and they appear within the overview page i.e. the updated purpose, description, tags etc.

However, when I then access that layer via ArcGIS Pro and view the metadata it still references the older metadata entries.

Is there an additional step to overwriting hosted feature layer metadata in AGOL that I am missing?

Thanks for providing the details @AndrewHankinson. Can you please clarify what you mean by layer overview page? Are you editing the metadata by opening the Feature layer (hosted) item from the list of items in ArcGIS Online and then clicking the Edit metadata button?

Can you please verify if you edit the sublayer's metadata in ArcGIS Online, does it appear when you view the metadata within ArcGIS Pro? The sublayer can be found under the Layers group within the Feature layer's overview page.

Have you verified that the layer you are accessing in Pro is the hosted feature layer and not some previous iteration of the layer saved in a local FGDB?

In combination with Austin's question, is this a version that is pulled down from AGOL by an instance of "Open using Pro" or is this opened through Pro using the Portal tab in the catalog? I'm also wondering if this is some cached instanced.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

The layers are accessed via the Portal tab in the catalog, although it might be relevant that these layers pulled down from the Portal into the project already existed in the project before edits where made to the layers metadata in AGOL. However, when re-adding the layer and viewing the metadata via the contents pane the old metadata is still referenced.

Can you please provide a few details to help better understand the issue:

Are you adding the feature layer to a map and then viewing the metadata? Or are you viewing the metadata of the feature layer directly using the catalog view?
If the layer is added to a map, is the metadata source for the feature layer in Pro set to use the source metadata? (This can be verified by right clicking the layer within the map and navigation to Properties > Metadata > Metadata source dropdown)
When you edit metadata in ArcGIS Online, are you editing the ArcGIS Online item metadata or the actual sublayer's metadata within the item?

Hi @VishweshS thanks for getting back to me.

1. I add the layer to a map and view the metadata by right clicking on the layer, view metadata which opens the catalog pane.

2. Metadata tab in the layer properties is 'Show metadata from data source (read-only)

3. To edit the metadata in ArcGIS Online I am going to the layer overview page and clicking on 'edit metadata'. I have also tried editing the service definition.

Ah, OK, I have edited the sublayer metadata and that edits the metadata, thank you.

The only thing is that when I view the metadata in ArcGIS Pro, the formatting that was applied shows as you write it in html. Is there a way around this?
