Enable ArcGIS Pro to export spatial reference information in FGDC metadata

The Export Metadata tool does not export spatial reference information when exporting to FGDC format. This was identified as a bug in 2020 (BUG-000124294). The workaround suggested by ESRI is to “Use the ArcCatalog stand-alone application” or use the ‘Save-As’ option. The ‘Save-As’ button produces an incorrectly formatted XML file. Because ArcCatalog will no longer be supported as of March 2026, we need another solution. Please enable the export of the spatial reference info for those of us with requirements to produce FGDC metadata for our clients.

We are closing this idea since this is a bug issue - as you mentioned, we do still have BUG-000124294 open, and will get to it when we can to provide a proper fix. Please subscribe to BUG-000124294 to get notified about its status change.

This has been a bug since 2019. With the end of ArcGIS Desktop imminent, the workaround we have in place (utilizing ArcGIS Catalog) is not going to cut it any longer.

When can we expect this to be fixed? It's critical to our production.
