I love the merge points tool!
One thing I really like about it is it's ability to reduce cracking and excessive vertices/lines/points. For example, along a boundary that is a straight line that indended to have one overall COGO segment for it, the merge points tool can cleanup the excessive features along the straight line by merging and favoring the endpoint of the segment and it will pluck the line free and smooth.
However, this does not work on curve segments that are one overall arc segment in the real world boundary, yet with some botched input data conditions, there is densified features, such that when you merge points.
In the below screengrab, I have a curve with a series of 64 densified points and straight segments. I'm suggesting for the Merge Points Dialog, there should be a checkbox parameter built into the merge points dialog to "recognize curve geometry" so as not to "buckle' the curve geometry to a straight segment (blue line below)

In some cases, we'll simply identify just one point along a curve that doesn't belong there that we want to flush out by merging it with the curve's 'true' endpoint. Yet the problem is that the geometry of the curve, itself outputs with weakened spatial integrity where the radius is compromised.

So in future releases, we think merge points can be upgraded so as to protect the spatial tenor of certain boundaries.
