Have you tried assigning a value to the 'instance_name' column? (settings sheet)

Yes, but the instance I have setup concatenates three fields. This makes it intuitive for field staff to select the correct entry to choose to edit/view, but then the sorting of the inbox isn't as desired by field staff. So an option to sort by a particular field but the freedom to create a custom instance that is initiative by field staff is the goal.
