Imagery Layer not shareable with the public...

Hi Folks,

Can anyone explain why the option to share with Everyone (public) is greyed out in ArcGIS Online when sharing an imagery layer? See the attached screenshot where this option is not available. I'm an admin on my organization but I can find how to share this layer type with the public?

I haven't found any documentation about limitations on publishing these datatypes with the public. Any ideas?

Hi Milton - Is this a Dynamic Imagery layer you are trying to share publicly? If so, it is true that those imagery layers are not allowed to be shared publicly. However, Tiled Imagery layers are allowed to be shared publicily.

How can tiled imagery layers make your organization more successful

For your description, I would encourage you to consider an alternative if you are looking to provide a single imagery layer that shows time periods. You could use a multidimensional tiled imagery layer to accomplish the same thing. The tiled layer is a single layer that can offer what you are looking for. Here is one that I have created that shows Landsat data over the years.

Lake Mead Time Series tiled imagery layer

You can use the multidimensional settings in Map Viewer or in ArcGIS Pro to display different time periods.

I have included instructions on how to create the imagery layer with the mosaic dataset.

Assess wildfire damage in ArcGIS Online

This should work for your purposes.

You can :

Share the imagery layer publicly
Display one layer at a time
Show the time periods

I know this topic is nearly 3 years old but to return to the question posed by @MiltonSolano that went unanswered:

What is the specific reasoning behind why Dynamic Imagery cannot be shared publicly?

In my case I am attempting to public a Mosaic Dataset that has a date attribute to allow time slider filtration in our experience. This is a construction progress monitoring job that has many internal and external stakeholders as well as availability for public access. In the map I only want to have a single imagery layer as opposed to weekly data sets for the individuals to troll through.

Thank you for the quick reply. Now, why on earth is this option limited? What is the reason behind?

One cool thing (among many others) about imagery layers is the option to download the rasters in Hub sites. Unfortunately, tiled imagery doesn't have this functionality.

(A bit of rant) I have a bunch of tiled imagery layers already published but my users can't download directly from the interface and have to read the description to find the download link on the description.

If only tiled imagery had the option to download external links defined on the metadata, would be great.

This wouldn't happen to be a dynamic imagery layer would it? If so, then you cannot share it with everyone. If you want to share it with everyone, please use a tiled imagery layer.
