I am excited to announce a new eBook that invites educators to explore reasons to embrace Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a teaching tool, and provides guidance and practical ways of using GIS in multiple disciplines and at multiple levels of education.
The focus of the book is to empower instructors--and their students--with spatial thinking through GIS. The book can be used to learn about:
- Why and how GIS is a relevant and viable teaching tool
- Strategies for effective teaching with GIS
- How to make GIS instruction holistic, field-based, multiscale, and visionary
- Skills that are fostered when teaching with GIS
This ebook is for instructors who are:
- Teaching GIS courses in universities and technical, tribal, and community colleges.
- Using GIS to teach science, social science, and other disciplines in secondary schools and higher education.
It is also my hope that this eBook will be of use to educators who are seeking to gain stakeholders and partners across their campuses and in their communities. Through the clear and compelling arguments, this document makes the case for why GIS isn't just a "nice to have" approach and toolset in education, but a "must have."
