There doesn't seem to be an option to remove any filters you've added to the sidebar. I also can't find a way to even edit them. The interface for managing them is a little confusing, so I suppose it could be there but I'm not seeing it.

@wayfaringrob After creating filters in sidebar you should see a box with the label "Custom filters" in that box you have the option to edit or remove the filters. Here's an example of how it looks:
To make things even more confusing, shutting off the 'Filter' option altogether seems to get rid of them all, but turning it back on still shows the count listed under 'Layer Filter Summary.'
