Unable to overwrite hosted feature layer

Hello! Every time I try to overwrite a particular hosted feature layer using ArcMap I get the message "Unable to overwrite service- Problem retrieving configuration from the server".

It's not an issue with a missing service definition file so I'm at a loss. I have even deleted the feature layer completely and republished it as new but I still get the error when I try to overwrite it. What could the issue be here?

Have you tried republishing it as a different name? It could be that the service is stuck on AGOL as that name or something.

Did you make it authoritative or add delete protection to it in ArcGIS Online?

Have you tried republishing the service? I did a google search for the error you provided and it seems the dependencies may have been lost or moved?

I've tried multiple times completely deleting and republishing it to AGOL but still have the same problem.

Also, I did a search for this issue in the ESRI bug report online and it was just updated yesterday:
