Disable editor tracking for a single calculation in python or model builder

Question

Hello,

Is there a way to temporary suspend editor tracking when using model builder or python? What I would like to do is calculate a field within model builder without changing the edit date.

The only workaround I know is to use the disable and enable editor tracking geoprocessing tool but I was hoping that maybe there is something more elegant.
