Label Expression to Display Code from Coded Value Domain

So, I've got a [MATERIAL] field that has a coded value domain associated with it in the geodatabase. The domain is like:

Code    Description
CI           Cast Iron
AC          Asbestos Cement
...

How can I get the code value to use in my label expression?

I have a similar question. I have a label that uses the same field on two lines but not using the coded value both times. For example how do I get the following result.

[basenameid] & vbnewline & [basenameid]

Should look like this when verified. And it does

N65432

What i want is the same code altered to say

N65432

basically i am using the same field but with its coded and uncoded values. So far i can't get the above script to work. what do i need to add or change in order to get the result i am looking for?

Unfortunately that only seems to work in attribute tables, not in labels.
