ArcScene 10 Floating Issue

Question

I'm trying to get a .shp file to float on a tin I made.(See Image Attached, I made the tin slightly transparent so you can see it better.) Both files are in the same projection. When I go to the .shp files Properties> Base Heights> elevation from surfaces> Floating on a custom surface
then set it to the tin it doesn't seem to be working. I've done this before in ArcScene 9.3 and it worked fine. Is there some simple step I may be overlooking?

I figured it out. Turns out the standard projection we use for all our projects has different units for the z-value then the x-y units. I've switched it to UTM NAD 1983 and it's working again.

I actually had this problem when I did it in 9.3 a long time ago as well. Guess I forgot to question the projection now that I'm forced to use the same one all the time. haha.

Looking at it closer the .shp file does seem to be taking the shape of the tin just not as much as it should. This photo is from when I adjusted the offset. You can see by the gorge the .shp file curves down slightly. 
   Any idea how to adjust z-values to work properly with the tin? I had the same problem when working with the DEM of the tin.

Hi Kevin,

You might try a couple of things:

1. Change the drawing priority of the features under Layer Properties > Rendering tab > Effects.
2. Add a slight offset to the draped polygon from the Layer Properties > Base Heights tab.

Hi Tim,

I've tried both of your suggestions to no avail. Giving it an offset got it to sit over the tin, but the .shp file is still not taking the shape of the tin. The .shp file remains completely flat. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated
