Crowdsourced App

Is there any chance that ESRI will replace the Crowdsourced app with a similar concept. This summer we have been hosting a highly successful library program using the app.

Our libraries love it and want it to continue next summer. I have not been able to find anything equivalent to replace it. I know you said the app will not go away but I suspect by next summer with no updates it will be less functional. Is that a reasonable assessment? I'd love to keep using it but I don't want people to have to work with a buggy app. I'm corssing my fingers that you will build a replacement.

Hi -- We're glad your project using Story Map Crowdsource was successful. We understand there were people that used this app and found it valuable, but given our limited development resources we were unfortunately no longer able to maintain Story Map Crowdsource as a stand-alone app.

We do plan to bring crowdsourcing back into our story map offerings, but since this app did not get anywhere close to the usage of our other storytelling apps it is not our top priority at the moment nor have we set a timeline for when we would work on this.

There is a possibility that future browser updates will introduce issues with creating or viewing Crowdsource stories. We believe the chances of this are low and the app should continue to work as it does today for several years, but of course this is impossible to predict. You could re-evaluate the app next summer to see if it is still working well at that time.

Paige -- You can create a new story from the Crowdsource item page. The link is in this blog. You'll need to be signed in to see the Create a Web App button on the item page. Your browser may not pick up that you are signed in when you visit the link, so try signing in and then search for the item using "story map crowdsource owner:esri_en" as your query.

Hi Owen, I would really like to build a Crowdsource story map (yes, I accept the risk), but I am not having any luck in creating it. Are there any kind of instructions or help on accessing it? Is it still available somehow? I even had my coworker, who is a developer, help and he couldn't figure it out either. This story map is exactly what I need, and I have been building a Crowdsource Reoorter for the past few weeks but it isn't meeting my photo-centric needs. Any help is much appreciated.

You can add a thumbnail by going to our My Stories dashboard: My Stories | Story Maps . Click on your story to expand it and then hover your cursor over the thumbnail and then click Choose Thumbnail.

You can also add a thumbnail by signing into ArcGIS Online, going to your content: https://www.arcgis.com/home/content.html, clicking the name of your story to open its entry in ArcGIS Online, and then clicking the Edit thumbnail button above the thumbnail.

Thanks for the suggestion Rupert. I can't see how to add the thumbnail though? I went into settings and that wasn't an option. I also did a quick search of your blog but not luck. Can you point me towards a page that explains how I would do so? Thanks again from your Storymap fan!

Nice work. You could add your own thumbnail for your story map to improve its appearance in search results and when it is shared on social media. Currently it uses the default thumbnail:
