Better control of feature layer labeling through REST

 It would be great to have the ability, through REST, to control the label class displayed by a layer within an ArcGIS Map Service.  There is no way to have a layer an an ArcGIS web mapping servicewith multiple label options, or even the ability to turn off a layer's labels without having to revert to multiple layers in a map service, each with a unique label. These layers then have o be toggled on and off separately to give the illusion of direct label control.  Layers within ArcMAP can have label classes... why can't we get control of their display through REST?
