ArcGIS Mobile and RoadVista 922 Retroreflectometer

Hi,

I'm trying to see if it is possible to link the RoadVista 922 Retroreflectometer to ArcGIS mobile so our Roads staff can easily complete the mandated retroreflectivity inspections this spring.

Has anyone attempted to get the 922 to talk to Mobile VIA Bluetooth and if so how?

Gamma Scientific is in the process of re-vamping the 922 firmware for RoadVista to provide a NMEA 0183 compliant data format. The external sensor configuration in ArcGIS Mobile is beyond my expertise, the setup should be very similar to the configuration required for most any external sensor communicating NMEA data - like a laser rangefinder, etc.

You could probably contact your supplier of the 922 sometime in the next few weeks to see if the updated firmware is yet released and to get a sample of the data output format.

I've created a tool to import the RoadVista's CSV output into my sign inventory program (SignProx) but also listen for the Bluetooth message sent for every new sign and link that data to a sign location on a map. The Bluetooth data stream is pretty handy as it contains barcode, retro readings and user/standard comments. It was pretty easy to set up. See a demo here.

Using code or a third party tool? As for barcode generation, I used to generate barcode with the help of another Barcode Generator SDK.

It is just one of many but I do appreciate its simple way of processing.

Even though I only tried its free trial package to generate barcodes and didn�?�t check the cost and licensing conditions, it works great for me.

Besides, this barcode site gives a lot of choices for report barcoding project.

But I wonder how did you do that by adding barcodes information to the bluetooth data. I have to say you did a great job! Good luck.

Arron, sorry I was not subscribed to this post so I never got a message of your reply.

We had a barcode scanner hooked to our 922. The device scans the bar code and converts it to a string. This data is sent to my software via BlueTooth. I didn't have to decode the barcode. The 922 supports several bar code types. I am considering adding bar code reading to my app and I may check out the SDK you linked. I'd be glad to discuss more if you want.
