This does the job,

dynamic_cast<FeatureLayer*>(m_featureCollectionLayer->layers().at(0))->labelDefinitions()->append(labelDef);

dynamic_cast<FeatureLayer*>(m_featureCollectionLayer->layers().at(0))->setLabelsEnabled(true);
