calculate density failed

I have point data that is being collected using Survey123 and I would like to use the Calculate Density analysis tool to get a density plot of the points.  I'm using the defaults and have my map zoomed so that the data I am interested in is displaying on the map.  Every time I run the Calculate Density tool in ArcGIS Online  it churns for a few minutes and then throws up an error message: "CalculateDensity failed".

Has anyone else ever seen this error before?  Any ideas what is causing the problem?

It turns out the problem was that the feature layer I was trying to run Density Analysis on was a view layer.
