Renaming a Field

There is a way to change the alias of a feature layer's field through the REST API:

https://developers.arcgis.com/rest/services-reference/update-definition-feature-layer-.htm

However, I want to change the field's name not the alias. Is it possible to rename a field after the feature layer is published?
