Hello all,
I am looking for a way to protect my shape file from being edited. Is it possible to prevent a shape file from being edited, but still available for visualization.

If you only need protection from inadvertent editing, changing the file attribute of the shapefile by right clicking on the file in explorer selecting properties and ticking the box for read-only should do the trick. It is however just as easy to tick it off.
You can't protect it from anyone with a moderately good level of computing knowledge or 12 year old children.
