Add GPS VErtices continuously Button not active

Hello good People,

I have the GPS active, a polygon shapefile editable and the Add GPS VErtices continuously Button is not active (none of the GPS buttons are active!)

Has anyone had this problem before? Is it a projection problem? Do I need to have the files proj is WGS84?
