X-ray Error

Trying to export xml of one dataset and getting error -- "XML Export Datasets Error: Unable to cast COM object of type 'System._ComObject' to interfacet type 'ESRI.ArcGIS.Catalog.IGxObject'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{BDBBB3EB-D0B2-11D1-AED9-080009EC734B}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)).

I don't know what this means or why it isn't working. Seems like I'm doing exactly what Steve is doing in the video?

Any ideas?

Hi Patricia,

We have logged this issue as a bug. (this issue occurs in the 10.0.82 version of the addin)

In the meantime, we have a workaround for you (I past this on to the tech support person who was helping you as well, but thought I would response so others can see the workaround)

We say select the feature class in the Catalog Tree. This will expose a bug. You will get the error message you posted below when importing the xml to the gdb if your selection is in the catalog tree only.

If you select in the Content tab when selecting the feature dataset\class to get the spatial reference you will not get this error. (ensure that the content tab has a selection)

I had this error when clicking on a gdb, then changing the XML Workspace Document to a nonexistent directory:

xml export database error: exception from hresult: 0x8004216A

Failed to export <gdbName>.gdb

The directory must exist prior to running the "Export GDB to XML Workspace (Schema Only) tool:

I'm not sure what the issue is offhand. Are you able to open another

simpler xml workspace document?

Also I can't tell from the info which version of the software you are

running, and if you have Excel installed. To me it looks like an issue with

the Excel install, which might also be complicated by non-English version

of Windows, I'm not sure.

There's a new version at

that includes enhanced validation. I don't think that would address your

specific issue, but you might try that along with making sure that you can

do a basic export/import from a Geodatabase.

Hello, I am experiencing problems when I try to open the UPDM.xml file for gas utilities with x-ray. The steps I followed are the following:

1-Select the xml file in the contents pane.

2-press the open xml button.

The following image shows the error which says it is not finding the file. I can´t really understand what is going on since the steps are quite straightforward. Any ideas?

I tried this too. I even closed the catalog tree so that I only had the contents window available. I am able to export out and import back in other databases. I think I am using the tool correctly and the error is probably something I introduced on the spreadsheets and the xml but the error message is so cryptic that it does not help me troubleshoot the problem.

X-Ray for ArcCatalog is very fussy. You have to click things in the right place and at the right time and follow the instructions exactly.

I wrote a blog entry mostly for my own reference to help me when I needed to do it again. You need to follow these instructions. When it tells you to select things in the contents window that's where you need to select it. Don't forget the step that directs you to save the xml schema after you set the spatial reference.

Hello all,

I am having a very similar error to the one shown on this thread. The error says: "Xml Import Error: Type Mismatch. (Exception from HRESULT:0x002005). DISP_E_TYPEMISMATCH))

This happens when I try to import the xml schema. I have validated it until it has no errors. I have also tried the workaround about the about the spatial reference described on this thread. I have set it via the Options menu and by selecting a feature dataset on the database.

I have also looked for empty worksheets on the spreadsheets but no success there either. I am using Arc 10.2.03348 and version 10.2.2 of the add-in. Any ideas?

I am getting a similar but different error. Any ideas?

Scenario:
Select File GDB to populate dialog, Rename the xml by adding a few letter to ID Feature dataset I would like to extract the xml for (in this case SewerStormwater I added SSW).
I then clicked on the Feature Dataset SewerStormwater in the contents window.
Then I click the export to xml button and this is the error I eventually get after it thinks for a moment. Note that if I delete SewerStormwater_Net it errors the same just with the next feature class in line.

Error in XML Document processing: An error occurred while loading document 'C:\Users\xyz\AppData\Local\ESRI\Desktop10.1\AssemblyCache\{C70C3622-9C........\Working\SewerStormwater_Net_Junctions.xml'. See InnerException for a complete description of the error.

I've made minor changes to existing SDE datasets and domains and cannot get the Import Using Geoprocessing tool to run without the following error:

Anyone have insight to share about this error?

Getting a similar error for trying to export a single FeatureDataset on v10.0.90 of the ArcCatalog XRay Addin running ArcGIS Destkop v10.0 SP4.

I can export the whole Geodatabase just fine but if I select a single FeatureDataset and export (followed by "Yes") then I get

XML Export Datasets Error: Unable to cast object of type
'System.__ComObject' to type 'ESRI.ArcGIS.Catalog.GxCatalogClass'.

I've tried different FDs, tried selecting the FD in the tree or in the Contents pane. Same result.

Any ideas or workarounds gratefully received.

OK, so the NoDatasetName was referring to the AddressPoint feature class, which is present in the geodatabase I derived the xml workspace doc from, but apparently did not carry over. I added it in from the original LGIM xml workspace and (even though I now have 26 errors) it imported fine. A couple of other observations:

Running Analyze Differences between the GDB and the derived XML will help understand what's missing as well.
You can't just save the Excel workbook, you must also hit the Save edits to selected XML Workspace icon in ArcCatalog for changes to be kept.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. I've validated both my modified XML workspace and the original XML workspace provided with the LGIM 10.1 download. They are both in the attached zip file. I'm assuming the Errors are the ones that are causing problems, as the Warnings seem less prohibitive, especially since I am importing into a file geodatabase. There are 20 errors present from the validation of the original download (which surprised me, but obviously some errors are OK), and I have 28. The problem is that none of the listed feature and relationship classes in the Errors list are any of the ones that I modified. Furthermore, all of the missing classes with their associated datasets have a tab present in the GISDatasets workbook. The two that are missing associate datasets are actually pointers to Parcel Fabric sublayers which do not have a spreadsheet tab (there is only the one tab for ParcelFabric). All of the type mismatches have to do with the attachment relationship classes (which are similar in the original validation). That leaves the one NoDatasetName, which seems to suggest that there is either an empty spreadsheet cell defining the name or an empty spreadsheet tab, but I have gone through all of the tabs in the GISDatasets workbook and did not find anything missing in that regard (i.e., all B1 cells are populated, all FeatureDataset definitions are either populated or null [for some root-level relationship classes] and there are no empty tabs). BTW, a great way to surf through the tabs is to use Ctrl+PageUp/PageDown.

So, I'm left scratching my head, and I may be misinterpretting the validation output, but at least this gives me something to go on to keep digging.

I would suggest you use X-Ray to validate your XML workspace before attempting to import it. You'll find the Validate tool under theTools dropdown. The validate tool will check your XML workspace document and give you a report of the errors.

The error you mention below sounds like the name you assigned to the feature class may not match the name of the worksheet. Also keep in mind the Import Using Geoprocessing only works with simple features and does not support many of the complex data types that are in the Local Government Information Model (parcel fabric, etc.). This tool (while powerful) should really only be used to cycle on simple changes (new feature classes, tables, domains, etc.) you want to make to you current model.

I have a little different problem. I made some significant changes (feature class/domain/attribute additions) for a public safety implementation using the X-Ray spreadsheets, and now I am getting an error on import.

Windows 7 x64
ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced 10.1 SP1 (Build 3143)
X-Ray v10.1.90 November 16, 2012 (this was the latest download I could find)

After making the necessary modifications in the spreadsheets, both for the datasets and the domains, I tried both the Import to Geodatabase and the Import Using Geoprocessing... options. Here are the errors respectively:

I have a similar problem when trying to import the LocalGovernment.xml to a file geodatabase. I get the same exact error message except that it comes up as an "XML Import Error:" I followed the workaround on this thread assuming that it may be the same issues (selecting all of the inputs from the "Contents" tab in arccatalog. I'm curious if there has been any more development on this issue? I'm following step-by-step the directions and doing everything locally.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
