Why is a shapefile I've uploaded to AGOL different in appearance than on ArcDesktop?

I've uploading some a linework shapefile to detail a road project area in a AGOL map, and upon first appearances, there are appears to be segmentation in the line work (corners, bends, etc).  Is this a matter of playing around with it in the display attributes (it gets better if I keep line widths lower), or should I try recreating/re-exporting the shapefile?  I'm still playing around with a couple of options.

No difference in Coordinate systems, and the symbology is retained upon upload.  I'm checking back in desktop to more closely examine the shapefiles to see if there's any discernible breaks at a large scale, then I'll see if I need to recreate the line work or not.
