exporting a selection of polygons

I have selected some polygons representing property parcels in my map. How can I export only the selected ones and not the entire data file? Would like to have them saved as a shape file.

In your table of contents right click on the feature class and and select data -> export. There is a radio button that will be checked by default for the selected records...

Right-click on the shapefile in the Table of Contents.

Go down to Data...click on it and a context menu will appear. Among the choices are 'Export Data...'

A box opens up with a drop-down box that shows either 'Selected Features' or 'All Features' or All Features in View Extent'.

You want the 'Selected Features'option.
