Embedding an Excel table into a StoryMap Series

Hello there! So I am currently attempting something like this post https://community.esri.com/thread/195757-exceltabular-data-in-story-maps but am having some issues. Right now when I try to publish the excel table as a hosted layer in my organization as a nonspatial table (I just want the excel table) it proceeds, but then it says an error occurred (but doesn't tell me what error it is!). I was wondering how exactly I can embed an excel sheet/google spreadsheet to a storymap series where my organization can edit the table ?
