view multiple pictures

Hi, I'm trying to create a web app with the flex viewer, but I need to show multiple pictures for one point. I've used the enhanced identify widget, to show one picture, but is there a way to view more than one (For this project, I only need to show 2 images, but it would be nice to show more than 2). I don't have to use the identify widget, I would just prefer it, but if there is no other way I would be alright with that.

Thanks Robert, was afraid of that.

I know it is for images, but it launches the pdf's just fine also. was hoping I could put something like

else if (sfx == ".pdf"){
 infoImage.source = "assets/images/i_icon.png
}

and just get a icon in there.

I suspected there would be more to it than that, but had to ask.

Well that make more sense than. As the attribute indicates by it's name the multiimagefield is only designed for images and not other files. Basically the code is trying to set an image component using the url of your pdf and that is why you get the broken link icon. There is nothing in place for what you are attempting to do.

Actually, I'm using the multiimagefield, not the linkfield. For data sets that have jpegs, I get a preview image in the popup window when I click on a feature. I can then click on the preview, and it will open that image full size in a new browser.

For other data set, my multiimagefiled files are actually pdf files, so there is no preview and it is putting a broken link icon in there instead. Ideally, I would want it to show a pdf icon there, but any picture icon is better than the broken link. If I click on the "broken" icon, it does open the pdf in a new browser, just doesn't show a photo icon.

This thread has gone all over the place, so remind me what we are talking about again... Are you saying that you are adding links to the Attachment Relate Info Window widget that point to pdfs and the icon is not showing when you have these attributes in the linkfield tag?

For the thumbnail to appear instead of the picture icon you have to have a link with these image file extensions:
if ((sfx == ".jpg") || (sfx == ".png") || (sfx == ".gif"))
If you have a url that produces and image through a url query or something than it will appear as an icon instead.

This is working fine for my .jpg images, but I am now using it to pull pdf's as well. It will launch them just fine, however, the picture icon is a broken link.
Was wondering what/where the image is that is used for the picture icon as I seem to be missing it. (can't seem to find where it is referenced in the code).

Hi Robert,

I have downloaded your latest source code and replaced all the contents in my InfoTemplates folder (other than the config files). then, re-built project, and even did a clean.

However, I am still getting the missing title on second click (once layer switched).

To simplify, I stripped all the layers from my map except two, loaded as type=feature coming from two separate services, and with different attribute item names.

I can click on as many features in one layer as I want, and it works fine. Then, I can click on as many features from the "second" layer as I want and it works fine. HOWEVER, when I switch layers a second time, it goes right back into the "have to click twice" to get the label issue. From this point on, every time I click on a feature from the "other" layer (other meaning other than the one I just clicked), it will not show the title unless I click the feature a second time.

Once I do click on that layers item a second time, it will keep working correctly as long as I keep clicking that layer only. Loses it again on switch.

If I do a refresh, it starts over letting me switch between layers ONCE.

Work around for now is to not have a title block, and put the titlefield as the first <fields> item. However, sure like the bold title up there (when it works).

Already tried that, but didn't work.

Thought maybe it was related to the warning about "Duplicate Variable definition", but if I hard code that, it still takes it.

I.e., If I modify it to this:

var title:String = "Testing";
map.infoWindow.label = title;.

Then it picks it up every time and always says "Testing" for my label no matter how much switching between services I do.

So, I then did this:

var title:String = titleField;
map.infoWindow.label = title;

So, it should now put the <titlefiled> field name up there instead of the value. From this, I can tell that it is using the <titlefield> from the last config file the first time you click on a feature using a different config file.

Example,
I have a waste site point layer <titlefield> = "sitecode"
I have a waste site line layer <titlefield> = "sitecode"
I have a building layer <titlefield>="name"

with the modification I mentioned above, if I click on a wastesite point feature, the popup label is "sitecode", if I then click a building feature, the popup label says "sitecode" (wrong), if I click it a second time, it will now say "name" (right). Then, click on any waste site, and the label is "name"(wrong), click again and it says "sitecode"(right).

Of course, I can click between the wastsite lines and points and it works as both have the "SITECODE" field. So, it seems to be pulling the <titlefield> from the last layer config file, BUT is extracting the data for that field from the correct (current) layer.

So, the reason it was not "mis behaving" when I cliked on different sub-layers is that both of them have a "sitecode" field so it could extract the value. It is when it tries to get data from a field that doesn't exist (because it is using the <titlefield> from a differnent layer, and that field does not exist in this data set (buildings does not have a "sitecode" field)) that it returns a blank.

Any ideas on how to make it read the titlefield from the correct config file (instead of from memory or wherever it gets it) the "first" time I click a feature?

Little more on this. Just noticed that I can click on many features in a layer and it keeps working. The first time I click a feature from a different layer it works correctly also. Any more clicks after that is when it starts misbehaving as above and keeps misbehaving until I do a reload of the page <cntr> <F5>. So, it lets me switch between layers once only.

You can try move it right under this line and see if that helps:

Well, that worked for the missing image issues, but have noticed that I get a similar issue when switching services.

In other words, I have several layers loading as type="feature", which requires the sub layer number on the end of the url.

I have config.xml's set up for several of these with the InfoTemplates (with multiimage enabled). Some feature layers are being loaded from a single service (http://server/ArcGIS/rest/services/Base/MRs/MapServer/0) and another to .../1. While others come from a different service (with or without sub layers, doesn't seem to matter).

As long as I click on any of the features from a single service (doesn't matter with sub layer as long as it is from the same base service), the popup works correctly with the title field.

However, if I have clicked on one of the service layers, then click on a feature from a DIFFERENT service, the title is blank. re-click on the same feature, and it gets populated.
I have put the same field I'm using for titlefield in the fields list, and is displayed correctly, so I know it is loading the correct data, but for some reason, the map.infowindow.label = title; does not seem to get updated until I click on it twice.

In fact, if I change that snippet in your AttRelateinfoWinWidget.mxml to map.infowindow.label = "Title text"; then EVERY time I click it will put the hard coded "Title text" up there. Almost if it is skipping the part that set the title variable on layer change until clicked a second time.

Anyway, pretty much exausted myself trying to figure this out, so thought I'd see if you have any ideas on how to approach this.

and change it to

if (multiImgField && fields == multiImgField && attrvalue != null)

That allows me to change the size of the preview image, but can't figure out how to center it.
However, the multi image control works like a champ, and that is the important part. Finally have a way to show more than one photo associated with my features. Too bad we can't hyperlink off of relates, then this would be simple.

One other thing I have noticed though, is that not ALL of my features have photos. If I click on the features that have photos, everything is working correctly. However, if I start clicking on features that do NOT have photos, the titlefield value does not change. So, no matter how many non-photo features I click on, it always gives me the title of the last feature I clicked on that has photos.

the other fields that I have change to the proper info, even if I use the same field in the <fields> tag as I do the <titlefield> tag. The fields data updates correctly every time, the titlefield only updates if photos are present.

I have incorporated this "fix" http://jeffgermain.wordpress.com/2011/05/05/bug-in-arcgis-api-for-flex-infowindow-workaround/ as it seemed to be similar if not the same issue, but did not resolve it.

Any idea as to what is going on here and how to fix it?

Robert,

Noticed that I had ended up with the mxml and swf files together in my source directory. Once I removed all the swf's and re-compiled, this setting starting having an affect.

I set a max/min width field, and the trick was to make the MaxDisplayedLines= to a number larger than ever needed. Now my text wraps within the box instead of making the box huge.

The one issue I have now is that the preview image (using the multiimagelink) is no longer in the middle of the popup window, but is off to the left side. I tried to figure out how/where to make this change so that it centers it inside the window, regardless of the window size, but have not been successfull.

Was hoping you could point me towards the right file/code block as where this is handled so I can try to manipulate to fit.

I don't have any experience with that scenario, but I would look at the InfoContentItemRenderer.mxml and this label:

That is easily disabled as well by going to Window Menu and Preferences > XML > XML Files > Validation > Indicate when no grammar is specified: Ignore.

The Flex Viewer is built against Adobe Flex SDK 4.1 You should go get the 4.1 SDK and add it to your Flash Builder workspace. If you go to the project menu and properties and then choose Flex Compiler and click the Configure Flex SDK... link, then Find and download other versions of Flex SDK, that should get you going.

Figured as much for the warnings. It is really the missing info error and compile warnings that concern me.

I am using the latest Flexviewer 2.4 that I downloaded one week ago.

Using the FlashBuilder4.5 (trial version as I am awaiting my copy with snail mail) and the SDK says Flex 4.5.1.

These WARNINGS will probably never go away as I don't foresee esri producing DTD or XML schema files for all their XML files.

When I look at my FlashBuilder 4.5 problems window, I get the following error:

The required skin state 'queryAttachmentInfosWithList' is missing. AttachmentInspectorReadOnlySkin.mxml /hanf/src/widgets/InfoTemplates

and a couple warnings:
(for every widget xml config file )
No grammar constraints (DTD or XML schema) detected for the document.

and then, for a bunch of the InfoTemplate.mxml(s):
This compilation unit did not have a factoryClass specified in Frame metadata to load the configured runtime shared libraries.

Could the missing skin have something to do with the formatting issues?
And, more importatly, any ideas as to how I go about "fixing" the error?

Any other ideas as to which mxml is handling the popups from your modified InfoTemplates?
I can completely comment out this section in the InfoContenetItemRenderer file and no change. So, apperantly, it is not calling that at all. Must be "hidden" somewhere else.

Also, I have found a workaround for the multiple paths to images.

It appears as if I can code the sub-folder into the filename and seems to be working.

folder1\derby_1.jpg,folder1\derby_2.jpg,derby_3.jpg,folder3\derby_4.jpg

Couple things going on here. My data looked like

derby_1.jpg, derby_2.jpg,derby_3.jpg, derby_4.jpg

and it does not like spaces in front of the filenames.

Also, I had the <multiimagefield> inside the <links> tag.
Moved it below the <links> tab and is working. Now just need to remove the spaces from my list.

Also, some of my attributes that I have in the <fields> area have pretty long text strings. Since this popup resizes to fit the data, on the features with a large "comment", the info window gets so large it goes off the screen/map.

is there a way to have this keep the info window a specific size and wrap the text inside the window, instead of resize window to fit text?

Your PHOTOS field should contain values like this:

derby_1.jpg,derby_2.jpg,derby_3.jpg,derby_4.jpg

unless
you also use the linkfuffix=".jpg" then your field data can be:

derby_1,derby_2,derby_3,derby_4

My example setup is:

<multiimagefield linkprefix="http://gis.calhouncounty.org/FlexViewer2.4/assets/images/" linksuffix="" nexttooltip="Next" prevtooltip="Prev">URL</multiimagefield>

You do not use both the multiimagefield and the linkfield

I had looked at the code some and appreciate you showing me where to look/modify. However, I am new enough to this, I can't seem to figure out how the different pages work together. Not sure how args/variables are passed from one module to the other, since variable names are not the same, etc. Think I will need a little more "practice" before I take this on.

For now, I have just made a copy of the images to a single folder to get it working. However, i can not seem to get the multiimage to work.

I have tried to remove the linkfield line in case it only allows one or the other, but no joy.
If I put the multiimagefield as one of the <fields>, it identifies it and even lists all the comma separated jpeg files, but I do not see any Next/Prev buttons or a preview.

If I use both the link and multiimage lines, the link works just fine and has a preview for the features that only have a single photo (features can have zero to 8 photo names in the multiimage field). If there is more than one photo, it will put the entire CSV string in the browser line, so I know it is getting the values but have yet to see the multi image option. Does this only work if ALL features have multiple images or something?

Below are my two lines of code. have tried with both, one, or the other.

<linkfield icon_or_text_or_img="img" icon="" linkalias="Photo" linkprefix="http://gis01.wch-rcc.com/rkz/images/" linksuffix="">PHOTOS</linkfield>
