Calculate Field in Model Builder

Question

I want to calculate a new field using the model builder.
The new content is the "sum" of a text ("U") and a number field. 
I use the VB-Expression "U"&Left([GST_def],1).

This expression works fine if I use it in the Attribute Table -> Calculate Field but it does not work within my model.

I attached a .jpg with my Calculate Field funtion.

can you please attach the toolbox holding the model and possibly any data needed?
Can you clarify this "...use it in the Attribute Table -> Calculate Field " - I do not know what you're referring to here.
