ArcGIS API for JavaScript 3.x has a BaseMap Gallery widget (Basemap gallery | ArcGIS API for JavaScript ). I like the way this provides a thumbnail image for each BaseMap.
I won't see any equivalent in 4.0. There is a BasemapToggle (BasemapToggle | API Reference | ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.0 ) but I don't see any widget for choosing between more than two basemaps.
Any idea if the BaseMap Gallery will be added to 4.x, or if there is some other way of achieving a similar result?

The Basemap gallery is coming in a future release. You can refer to the detail functionality matrix for all the info you need:
