I am trying to create a web app using ArcMap to set up the layers - but cannot get ArcMap to allow me to sign on to ArcGIS Online under File (option in menu)? The option is greyed out, as well as What am I missing?

I signed out of ArcMap 3 times - and on this last effort, it now works!?
Is this a common error? My system requirements really surpass the minimum.

I'm not sure exactly why this happens but it can be due to a disruption in connecting to the network, or a block on your organisation's firewall. If it happens again, try connecting to a different WiFi or a mobile hotspot to see if that makes a difference.
Additionally, when you boot up ArcMap, you might notice a globe icon on the bottom right of your taskbar - if you can't sign in, right click on it > Run Connection Test... > Perform Tests and this will help point to where the issue lies.
