How would I create a basemap from mosaic raster DEM

Question

I have pulled 30+ Aster DEM tiles from USGS covering a region in Mesoamerica, and created a mosaic to new raster. I have not been able to upload the new DEM raster to ArcGIS Online (AGO), and was recently advised to create the DEM raster as a basemap. Any advice?

Create a tiled service of the mosaic dataset following the steps in the below document:
