Google Routing Widget for the Flexviewer

I've just posted a widget for leveraging Google's directions api. Download and enjoy, both compiled and uncompiled versions have been supplied. I've posted version 1 of the widget to get some comments and maybe see what additional functionality people may want. I have my own ideas but I'd like to get some feedback. The new route widget in the above reply does not work in flex viewer 3.0 compiled version. I had to upgrade to flex viewer 3.1 compiled version. Now once the user enters the two addresses, it pops up a signon box. The user must sign in with a userid and password that is a member of an ArcGIS Online organizational subscription.

Be aware that the old routetasksolver web service is being retired on 12/31/2013.

The North American and European route solvers will be gone after 12/31/2013 per:

Be aware:

If you want to upgrade 2.x code to 3.x, the best starting point (in addition to trying and then interpret error messages), is probably

From that page and related to your error:
On the GeometryService, the input parameter for the project() method is now projectParameters instead of geometries. This also allows for specifying datum transformations (requires ArcGIS 10.1 for Server).

Yups, i'm using a widget compiled for 2.x with 3.5. just try my luck because i compiled social media widget 2.2 for 3.5 and it's working.I'm download the widget in 2011 (not accessible any more).

Sounds like maybe you are using a widget compiled for 2.x with 3.x. Where did you download this widget (the item mentioned above does not seem accessible any more)?

Hi Andrew,

Did this widget get removed from the arcgis site? It asks for a login but then says I'm not authorized to view the resource. Just curious, I actually already have everything working except the zoom to route feature.

I tested it, but the widget just show text results. the rout don't plot over the base map.

I can download the GoogleRouting and the compiled version works great standalone.
I tried adding the Compiled Version to my FlexViewer 2.4 compiled version and the Google Routing won't execute. I have the googleProxy out there and created it in IIS. I copied the GoogleRoutingWidget into my widgets folder and updated my server name as described. I copied the two supplied images into assets/images.
Any ideas?

Hi Andrew, I have a question. I got the widget to work on Wednesday afternoon and when I opened up the website on Thursday morning the widget no longer works. It is giving me the following error message: "Google could not generate a route".

I did not make any changes to the xml or proxy service. Have you ever run into this problem before?

Andrew and Bjorn, thank you very much for your help. I was missing the crossdomain.xml so I created a file from Andrews and placed it inside my google proxy service. I refreshed my IIS and added in the "http://gkbz/googleproxy/Service.asmx?WSDL" as my proxzy url service and it works perfectly.

When you can access the URL directly but not from a flash application, it is usually due to either a missing crossdomain.xml file, or it's not configured to allow your flash application access.

In this case, look at http://www.geosmartniagara.ca/crossdomain.xml and you'll notice that it only allows access for applications hosted on cogeco.ca. What's the URL for your application?
<allow-access-from domain="*.cogeco.ca"/>

You won't be able to use my proxy service. I included a asp.net proxy service, "googleproxy", with the download.

Also, I cannot find where on the .xml file where I replace LocalHost with my server name. Any advise would help. I really would like to get this app working.

Andrew, I haven't looked closer at their flash api, I was hoping you had 🙂

Though I'm not surprised that their flash api has less features than their SOAP API...

Is it me or is the flash api a little less functional? The api I'm currently using seems like it has much more.

Thanks, The users xml was just leftover garbage from previous testing. Nothing critical there. I will also check out the flash api, I hate having to use a proxy.

The zip file contains a users.xml with what looks like username/password. If those are real passwords, you might want to remove that file from the download... 🙂

Also, you might want to remove the whole compiled version except for the actual GoogleRouting widget (and its related files). Most of the time you can assume that people already have the "main" compiled version, and thus are only looking for the files needed by this widget. Just a suggestion...

For the Google directions, are you using the http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/directions/ API?

Did you also look at their flash API (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/flash/reference.html#Directions)?
