Which fonts look best for numeric labels?

Hello,

I'm in the process of creating a new base map for a public web application, and was wondering which fonts for numeric labels (roads, interstates, etc) look best?  Or, which one(s) do you prefer?  I'm yet to find something that I like in the default font list.

If you are mixing letters and number, any simple serif font, because they make numbers easier to distinguish (letter l vs number 1). I like Century.

Are you talking about the "shields" for street signs and such? Have you looked into creating text symbols?
