ArcPad Data Manager 9.2 Check In Issue

I am running tests on some Utilities data.  Each layer has a few subtypes and many domains.  I am successful in creating the .axf for ArcPad 8 and it seems to work just fine.  When I try to check-in the data, the ArcPad Data Manager will show me which layers have changes, but it hangs for a while (60+ minutes) and ultimately fails to import the data (on my local PC).  No changes are made to the source .GDB schema while the data is checked-out.  I have 30 layers I would like to be checked in and out, but not all layers will be edited all the time.  I am wondering if the complexity of the subtypes and domains are bogging down the system.  Anyone have an experience like this and/or a solution besides reinstalling ArcPad (if that would even work in this instance)?

ArcPad Data Manager is not supported on ArcGIS 9.2, so is not surprise that you cannot check data back in.

Had same issue with 9.3, but I am moving towards an .axf out of ArcSDE.  I am in the process of removing unnecessary domains to shrink the overall .axf size.  Having tested it successfully already from a local .gdb, I am looking forward to no more DB bloat.
